Dr. Christopher possesses extensive expertise in the ecology of Central Coast listed species. She can provide the following services to navigate listed species issues during project approvals.
California Red-legged Frog Site Assessments follow U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) guidance and involve filling out a data sheet. The assessment is submitted to the USFWS to determine whether protocol surveys or an incidental take authorization are needed.
California Tiger Salamander Site Assessments involve follow USFWS/California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) guidance and involve preparing a report. The assessment is submitted to the USFWS and CDFW to determine whether protocol surveys or an incidental take authorization are needed.
San Joaquin Kit Fox Habitat (SJKF) Evaluations are required by the County of San Luis Obispo for projects located in the mapped SJKF habitat area. The evaluation involves filling out a form to generate a score that determines the applicable mitigation ratio requirement. The evaluation is submitted to the County, who provides it to the CDFW for their concurrence with the mitigation requirement.
Stream habitat assessment determines habitat suitability for aquatic species such as steelhead, tidewater goby and pond turtles. It involves measurements of water depth, pool size, flow rates, substrate type, instream woody debris, bank characteristics, and aquatic/riparian vegetation, as well as downstream barriers to steelhead migration. CRAM can be used to monitor the condition of wetlands and riparian habitats.
